Liverpool's Coutinho submits transfer request amid Barca interest

Liverpool star Philippe Coutinho has officially submitted a transfer request to the club on Friday, English tabloids report.

This is happening only few hours after the club released a statement saying the attacking midfielder is not for sale.

The 25-year old has been a transfer target of La Liga side, Barcelona, since the world-record move of Neymar to Paris St Germain.

But Liverpool have rejected a bid of £90m from Barcelona on Wednesday, and by Friday, declared that the Brazilian star is not for sale at any price.

In the statement on Friday, the club’s owners said: “We wish to offer clarity as regards our position on a possible transfer of Philippe Coutinho.

“The club’s definitive stance is that no offers for Philippe will be considered and he will remain a member of Liverpool Football Club when the summer window closes.”

But Coutinho, who has already been ruled out for their game against Watford this weekend, has now officially asked to leave Anfield.
