Lobi Stars coach Uwua laments 3-week suspension for picking home draw

The coach of Nigeria Professional Football League side Lobi Stars, Godwin Uwua, has expressed disappointment following his three-week suspension by the club after his team’s 0-0 home draw with Katsina United last Sunday.

Uwua, who was handed the suspension by the management of the club on Monday, said it came as a surprise to him as he was forced to ask what his offence was.

“The move came as a surprise to me. I was in training with the players on Monday evening and some board members came in to break the news to me,” Uwua told to Complete Sports.

“They told me that I should stay away from the team for three weeks and I ask them ‘what was my offence?’ They said it was because we played a draw at home against Katsina United.”

The erstwhile Flying Eagles coach, who led Lobi Stars to win the maiden edition of the Nigerian Super League in 1999, believes his team played well despite the stalemate, and expected that the management of the club would act in same manner as other clubs who have experienced a worse start to the season.

“For me, I believe it is uncalled for. We played well in the game against Katsina United and created a number of chances and even missed a penalty,” he continued.

“If you also check the statistics, we are unbeaten in the last three games and even played a draw against Rivers United in our last away game.

“Some teams have lost more than once at home this season and others have experienced more than that, and have not suspended nor sacked their coaches. So I find their action very funny.”

When asked what he’d be up to, the stylish Boss, who led the team to fifth place finish at the end of last season, said he will wait to hear from the state government who in the first place offered him the responsibility of managing the club.

“It was the governor of Benue State that personally called me to come and handle Lobi Stars and not the board.

“For now, I will stay in my house and wait on the governor to act on the matter,” he stated.
