Lockdown in airline industry as five firms suspend flight operations over COVID-19
Players in the nation’s aviation sector on Wednesday declared a total lockdown of the industry after five airlines announced the suspension of flight services effective this week.
The affected airlines are Arik Air, Air Peace, Azman Air Services Limited, Dana Air and Max Air.
While four airlines – Arik Air, Air Peace, Azman Air Services and Max Air will commence the suspension of their operations on Friday, Dana started its shutdown Wednesday.
A statement issued by the management of the five airlines said the decisions to suspend flight operations were taken to mitigate the risk of spreading the COVID-19 to their customers and staff.
The airlines promised to resume services as soon as the coronavirus pandemic subsided.
