LOCKDOWN: Nigerian govt sets up team to ensure movement of agricultural products

In its effort to avert food scarcity during the lockdown, the federal government, Friday, directed that agricultural products be allowed to move unhindered within in the country.

The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Sabo Nanono disclosed this at the inauguration of the joint technical task team on emergency response to COVID-19.

The team’s primary function was to ensure that there was free flow of agricultural products from the farm to the final consumer.

“To facilitate the free movement of food, livestock and agricultural inputs nationwide to avoid food shortages and ensure minimal impact of COVID -19 on this year’s farming season,” he said.

Mr Nanono said the team led by AIG Austin Agbonlahor, AIG (Operations) was set up to address complaints “received by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development on the problem faced by transporters of food, livestock and agricultural inputs in different parts of the country. ”

He said “a result of the unavoidable enforcement of restriction orders is food scarcity which negatively impacted on the nation’s agricultural production.”
