LONDON FRIENDLIES: Ahmed Musa to captain Eagles

Leicester City midfielder, Ahmed Musa, will be wearing the captain’s band when the Super Eagles of Nigeria take on the Teranga Lions of Senegal and the Etalons of Burkina Faso in the friendlies scheduled for this month.

Musa, who has fallen out of favour at the English Premier League side under new coach Craig Shakespeare who is in charge of the team in interim capacity following the dismissal of former boss Claudio Ranieri, will lead the Eagles in the absence of John Mikel Obi..

Erstwhile Manager of the England champions, Claudio Ranieri, reportedly lost his job after fans and players of the club questioned his decision to start Musa ahead of Demarai Gray in their 1-2 UEFA Champions League loss to Sevilla three weeks ago.

But in spite of Musa’s club travails, Eagles Technical Adviser, Gernot Rohr, has insisted on him as captain for the ties.

“No way will Rohr replace Musa as vice captain. He will retain his position, he is one of the senior players in the team, you have to respect that,” a source close to the German coach said.

“Ogenyi Onazi will act as his deputy in the games against Senegal and Burkina Faso, but when Mikel Obi is in the team, they fall back to first and second assistants”.
