Guardiola on Man City loss to Liverpool

Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola has congratulated Liverpool for their performance after the Reds ended City’s unbeaten run following a 4-3 defeat at Anfield on Sunday, and says losing is normal.

The Premier League leaders lost a Premier League game for the first time this season in the thrilling encounter with Jurgen Klopp’s men.

Goals by Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah gave Liverpool the win as goals by Leroy Sane, Bernardo Silva and Ilkay Gundogan were not enough to earn City a point.

Speaking after the game, Guardiola termed the defeat “bad news” and admitted his side knew they were up against an equally good side.

“The bad news is we lost so congratulations to Liverpool for their performance,” the Spaniard said.

“We knew what a good team they are. We were not precise with the ball and started with problems but we recovered as well.

“We have a lot of games to win to be Champions and will try for the next game against Newcastle.

“They have the quality to run and make fast counter attacks.

“We’ve won a lot of games in the last minute but to concede four goals is not good. You have to live this type of situation during a season.

“I’ve won a lot of titles and always I’ve dropped points and lost games. It’s normal.

“Every team fights for the Champions League, to win the league or to stay up. We have a lot of games and hopefully we can stay fit in the schedule of games every three days. But to lose a game is absolutely normal,” he added.

City remain 15 points clear at the top, though second-placed Manchester United have a game in hand– against Stoke on Monday. Liverpool are third– level on points with both United and fourth-placed Chelsea.
