Low sugar production threatens 200,000 jobs

Published

on

Moves by the Federal Government to create 117,181 jobs under the sugar development plans between 2019 and 2020 seem to have crumbled due to low sugar production in the country.

It was gathered that the country will only have capacity to produce 80,000 tons of the commodity in 2019.

Due to this, the country will still need to depend on 1.67million tons of foreign raw and refined sugar valued at N300.6 billion ($835 million) this year.
