We are lucky to have Onyekuru, says Anderlecht Boss

Manager Herman Van Holsbeeck has said Anderlecht are so lucky to have Nigerian striker, Henry Onyekuru, in their team for the coming season.

The coach said this while revealing how Onyekuru almost joined Ligue 1 gaints, Paris Saint-Germain, going as far as undergoing a medical.

Onyekuru signed for Everton from Eupen on a five-year deal, but was immediately loaned to Anderlecht where he’ll be playing the entire season before returning to Goodison Park.

Holsbeeck said the 20-year old would have been loaned out to a different club instead of Anderlecht if he had completed the move to PSG in June.

“Henry Onyekuru was on his way to PSG, that would loan him out to Antwerp,” he told hln.be.

“He (Onyekuru) underwent a medical with PSG, before he signed with Everton, so we are so lucky to have him with us.”

Onyekuru made his official debut for Anderlecht in their Belgian Super Cup clash with Zulte-Waregem last Sunday.

Onyekuru came off the bench in the 65th minute in the Super Cup final and helped his side maintain their 2-1 lead to the end, as they lifted the trophy the 13th time.

The Belgian league season begins with Anderlecht playing away to newly promoted Antwerp on Friday.
