Luis Figo says Cristiano Ronaldo is 'not indispensable' at Madrid

Amid reports claiming that Portugal international Cristiano Ronaldo has made up his mind to leave Spanish giants Real Madrid this summer, his compatriot and former Bernabeu star, Luis Figo says ‘nobody is indispensable’ in the club, including Ronaldo.

The Portuguese superstar is “unhappy” in Spain after allegations surfaced that he had committed tax fraud worth over 14.7million euros, which he has denied, saying “I have a clear conscience.”

Following the development, there’s been speculations from many quarters that the four-time Ballon d’Or winner could make a return to former club Manchester United or make a move to French side, Paris Saint-Germain.

But former Madrid star Figo expresses that no player is bigger than the club, but believes Ronaldo will remain at the club through next season.

“I hold the opinion that nobody is indispensable, not even Cristiano Ronaldo,: he told Gol when asked about Ronaldo speculation.

“Clubs can’t depend on anybody. The history of these clubs is above everyone, even the president or whoever.

“A lot of things would have to happen for him to leave.

“It is a personal decision and if a person really wants something to happen then it will end up happening, but I see it as unlikely,” added Figo, who played at the Bernabeu between 2000 and 2005.

Real’s president Florentino Perez also insisted earlier this week that no offer had been made to the club for the 32-year old, hence he remains a Madrid player.

Ronaldo is currently playing for Portugal at the ongoing FIFA Confederations Cup in Russia, where he scored the decisive goal in their 1-0 victory over hosts Russia in Moscow on Wednesday.
