MADAGASCAR: Two lawmakers die of coronavirus, 25 others test positive

Two Madagascan lawmakers have died after testing positive to the novel coronavirus, the country’s president, Andry Rajoelina said on Sunday.

He also said that 25 other lawmakers, – 11 deputies and 14 senators had also tested positive for the virus.

The announcement comes after the president in April launched an herbal remedy named Covid-Organics to ‘cure’ coronavirus following which the World Health Organisation advised against using untested remedies.

Due to a new wave of infections, its capital Antananarivo, was placed under a fresh lockdown two months after the restrictions were eased.
