Mahrez set to join Chelsea on deadline day

Reigning African Best Player, Riyad Mahrez, is on the verge of completing a move to Premier League champions, Chelsea, on Thursday, English tabloids report.

As the European transfer window reaches its deadline, the Algeria international will be leaving Leicester City where he was crowned PFA Player of the Year after guiding them to the league title in 2016.

The 26-year old, who ought to be in camp with his country ahead of the World Cup qualifier against Zambia, was given permission to leave on Wednesday night to resolve his future.

Barcelona looked to be heading the race for him, but Chelsea are expected to complete the £45m signing before the transfer window closes later on Thursday.

Mahrez’s move to Stamford Bridge would see him link up with former team-mate N’Golo Kante.

Chelsea are also hopeful of completing moves for Fernando Llorente, Ross Barkley and Danny Drinkwater on deadline day.
