Makarfi supporters storm PDP office, chase out officers, lock gates

The battle for the chairmanship position of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, got fiercer on Thursday as supporters of Senators Ahmed Makarfi and Ali Modu Sheriff met again at the national secretariat of the party brandishing cutlasses.

Makarfi’s supporters who arrived as early as 6am at the secretariat armed with cutlasses barricaded the entrance into the national secretariat displaying banners with the inscription, “PDP youths support Makarfi, Sheriff is an APC agent”.

Shortly after, supporters of Sheriff who were fewer in number also arrived beating drums and chanting songs in support of Senator Sheriff.

The drama did not last long before the Makarfi group chased the Sheriff group away from the secretariat, as Police and DSS officials deployed to the secretariat looked on.

The protesters stormed the offices, chasing out the national secretary and auditor of the party.

They later chained and locked the gates to the secretariat, handing the keys over to the chairman of the party’s BoT, Walid Jubril.

This is happening despite the PDP Governors Forum and Board of Trustees meeting where the party insisted that Makarfi remains its caretaker committee chairman.
