Makarfi’s egocentric presidential ambition has blindfolded him, Kashamu says

Senator Buruji Kashamu has accused the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Caretaker Committee chairman, Senator Ahmed Makarfi, of allowing his egocentric presidential ambition to blindfold him.

The senator representing Ogun East Senatorial District, who also accused Makarfi of acting like a sole administrator, was reacting to the situation in the party where the next chairmanship of the party is made “a free for all,” affair.

According to Kashamu, it was clear now that Makarfi is working in sync with some members of the PDP to deny the South-West the chance to have the next national chairman of the party at the December 9 elective convention.

Apparently sensing danger ahead of the convention, Kashamu in a statement he personally signed and released in Abuja, warned that the idea of the chairmanship of the party being made “a free for all,” could work against the interest of the PDP.

He said, “It is not hidden that prior to the emergence of the Senator Ahmed Makarfi-led National Caretaker Committee, a generally acceptable zoning of national EXCO positions have been reached; where the national chairmanship was zoned to the South, on the understanding that the next presidential candidate shall be of northern extraction.

“Major stakeholders in the party also felt it would be equitable and just to further concede the national chairmanship position to the South West which has not had the privilege of producing the national chairman of the party since inception.

“Senator Makarfi has allowed his egocentric presidential ambition to blindfold him. He has been illegally tinkering with duly elected states’ EXCOs with the intention of substituting them with allies sympathetic to his ambition sliced with greed of selling state structures with impunity.

“He has disorganised the South-West PDP for selfish manipulations with his cohorts, chief among who is the uncultured and erratic Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Ayo Fayose.”

Kashamu doubted Makarfi’s capacity to lead the party and warned of fresh crisis in PDP if the current events in the party is not properly handled.
