MALABU SCAM: MEND wants Reps to compel Jonathan to answer questions

Not Against The Run Of Play

The Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta has urged the House of Representatives to invoke its inherent powers to compel former President Goodluck Jonathan to appear before it should he refuse to honour the House summon over the Malabu oil deal scandal.

MEND’s comment followed the plan of the House to summon Jonathan to appear before it to explain the allegation that he may have received $200million as kickback from the controversial OPL 245 Malabu oil deal.

In a statement released by its spokesperson, Jomo Gbomo, MEND said that it was compelled by “natural justice, equity and good conscience to lend our voice against the most ignoble and despicable role played by the former President in the messy affair which has tainted the image of Nigeria both locally and internationally.

“Like millions of Nigerians at home and in the Diaspora, who have keenly followed the OPL 245 saga, we have reasonable grounds to suspect that former President Jonathan may have indeed compromised his high office with regard to the matter, more especially, given the fact that key officials of his administration, including the then Attorney General of the Federation, Mr. Mohammed Bello Adoke, have been indicted and charged before the Federal High Court in Abuja.”

Expressing its full support for moves by the House of Representatives to summon the former President to appear before the House to give answers to the myriad of questions concerning his role in OPL 245, MEND said should he refuse to honour the invitation, “we urge the House to invoke its inherent powers to compel his appearance.”

MEND also reacting to the allegation that Shell Petroleum Development Company is planning to relocate to Lagos said, “To be sure, the Niger Delta region is no longer hostile to the business interests of the IOCs, including SPDC, as peace has since returned to the area; following the enervating efforts of the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta, the Pan-Niger Delta Forum, the various state governments, as well as the Federal Government.

“There is, therefore, no reason whatsoever for SPDC to relocate back to Lagos. We use this opportunity to warn that we shall reconsider the unilateral ceasefire of May 30, 2014 if SPDC relocates back to Lagos.”

Aside MELABU Scam, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan is supposed to be thoroughly investigated for frauds. He headed the most corrupt administration in the history of Nigeria, that makes him a suspect in all corruption that occurred during his administration

You must be insane for saying Jonathan is a suspect, this man has done nothing wrong, his administration was corrupt, says who? Is Buhari’s ongoing administration as good as Jonathan’s? You need to reason like human and see things clearly, Buhari’s administration is more corrupt than Jonathan’s, we’ve seen a d we’re convinced.

You’re both silly! How has this arguments helped your life? Will it stop the past, current and future administrations from embezzling public funds? You need to think about yourselves before discussing about the leaders who don’t care a bit about us.

I can’t believe Mend can agitate that president Jonathan should truly appear before the reps. This is serious. How can they go against their own kinsmen.

Jonathan was a Shame to them. After all he did absolutely nothing to solve their problems as their own son when he was the president.

One of the major achievement of Buhari is how he quell the vandalisation of pipelines by the militants. The Niger delta militants have now seen that Baba buhari has more concerned for them than their own bastard son.
