The Federal Government of Nigeria has revealed its stand over the inhuman treatment being meted out on some Nigerians by the Chinese authorities in Beijing.

Mrs Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman and CEO of Nigerians in the Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM) restated the Federal Government’s resolve to protect all citizens living abroad in a statement on Friday.

In the statement by its Head of Media and Public Relations Unit, Abdur-Rahman Balogun, the NIDCOM Chairman said that an incident has compelled Nigerians to protest on the streets of Guangzhou, China and they were advised to report to the country’s mission.

She said; “I advise Nigerians living abroad to always report issues of concern to appropriate authorities rather than roam the streets.

”When the incident was reported, the people were promptly attended to by officials of the Nigerian mission with the Head of Chancery, Mr Razaq Lawal expressing his displeasure to the Chinese authorities in no uncertain terms.

”Lawal said that a series of meetings have been held between Nigerian and Chinese officials to resolve the impasse.

Her comments come after the leadership of the House of Representatives frowned at the alleged inhuman treatment being meted out on some Nigerians by the Chinese authorities.

The Speaker of the House, Femi Gbajabiamila at a meeting with the Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria, Zhou Pingjian, warned that the alleged treatment must be addressed forthwith.

The Speaker, at the meeting confronted the Chinese Ambassador with the protest video of the incidence where a Nigerian was seen challenging Chinese officials over the maltreatment.
