Man accused of blasphemy lynched to death by mob in Pakistan

A man accused of blasphemy during Friday prayers in a northern Pakistani town has been lynched to death by an angry mob.

The incident also witnessed the wounding of six police officers who attempted to save the victim from the mob.

Before the killing, the mob attacked the local police headquarters and demanded that alleged blasphemer Rashid Ahmed be made available for justice forcing security officials in Chitral to fire tear gas and live rounds, injuring eight protesters.

“We told them that Ahmed will be examined medically and if he was found mentally fit then he will be tried under the blasphemy law, but the mob was not satisfied,” Akbar Ali Shah, local police chief, said.

This is the third blasphemy-related incident this month after a student was beaten to death by a lynch mob and another, a faith healer was shot dead.
