Man arrested while consuming stolen fufu, soup

A 35-year-old man, identified as Kaduna Enatimi, has been arrested by vigilance group, Igbogene Vigilance Committee, in the Yenagoa Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, for allegedly stealing half basin of garri, 12 wraps of fufu and a pot of soup.

The suspect, who hails from Akassa community in the Brass LGA in Bayelsa was reportedly arrested by members of the vigilante group while consuming some of the stolen wraps of fufu and soup at about 2am.

When questioned after his arrest, the suspect admitted that hunger and economic hardship made him to steal the pot of soup, fufu and the basin of garri.

According to Chief MoneySweet Asomo, the Head of the Igbogene Vigilance Committee, the suspect was caught “red handed doing justice to the soup and food items stolen from a cafeteria owned by an Akwa Ibom State woman in the area.”

Continuing, Asomo said, “We were on patrol at about 2am on Thursday. When we got to the Timida School area, we saw a man at a local food joint eating.

“The food kiosk is owned by an Akwa Ibom indigene popularly called Madam Blessing.

“We questioned Enatimi and he confessed to have stolen the pot of soup, some wraps of fufu and half basin of garri.”

However, Paramount Ruler of the area, the Obenibe X1 of Epie Kingdom, King Hope Adike, who intervened in the matter, asked the suspect to be paraded round the community with the stolen items in order to serve as a deterrent to others.

Moments after the suspect was paraded around the village, he was released and asked to go and sin no more.
