Man City set record with derby victory over United

Published

on

Premier League leaders, Manchester City continued their impressive run in the league as they defeated city rivals, Manchester United 2-1 at Old Trafford on Sunday.

A goal in each half from David Silva and Nicolas Otamendi secured the win for City, as Marcus Rashford’s first half equalizer was not enough to earn the home side a point.

City remain unbeaten after 16 games and are now on 46 points, 11 points ahead of second-placed United.

The Pep Guardiola side becomes the team with the longest winning streak in the history of the Premier League in a single season, as they have now won 14 straight league games, one better than Arsenal’s 2002 run and that of Chelsea’s last season.

The defeat for the Red Devils was the end of a 40-match unbeaten run at Old Trafford, a run that had started since September 2016.

United will welcome Bournemouth for their next game on Wednesday, while City will travel to Swansea same day.
