Man City snatch victory at Chelsea to retain top spot

Premier League leaders, Manchester City retained their spot by beating champions Chelsea 1-0 in an important match at the Stamford Bridge on Saturday.

City were without injured striker Sergio Aguero, who broke a rib in a car crash on Thursday.

The visitors however were the better side against the champions, and to add to their poor outing, top scorer Alvaro Morata limped off with an injury in the first half.

But it was Kevin de Bruyne – a former Chelsea player – who scored the excellent winner in the 67th minute as City held on to take all three points from the game.

“There are no words to describe what Chelsea are and what they did last season,” City boss, Pep Guardiola said after the game.

“It is important to win and especially with the way we played. In the first half we didn’t find the right position but in the second we were better. A big congratulations for the victory.

“Chelsea want to play and they are so so dangerous in attack but we kept the ball and when they had it we pressed as high as possible.

About the goal scorer, Pep added, “Everyone is talking about Kevin de Bruyne. He makes absolutely everything. He is the most humble guy, I am so happy for him because I know how happy he is.”

City continued with their winning streak this September, having beaten Watford 6-0, Liverpool and Crystal Palace 5-0, Feyenoord 4-0 and now champions Chelsea 1-0 away from home. They also beat Shakhtar Donetsk 2-0 and West Brom 2-1.
