Man in court for allegedly breaking co-tenant’s jaw over electricity bill

A commercial bus driver, Joseph Adekunle, on Friday appeared before a Yaba Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, for allegedly stoning his neighbour and breaking his jaw after an argument over electricity bill.

The Prosecutor, Sergeant Modupe Olaluwoye, told the court that the 55-year-old committed the offence at 10.00 p.m. on January 26, at No. 17, Eyiowuawi St., Shomolu, Lagos.

According to Olaluwoye, the complainant, Mr. Sunday Adiele, accused the defendant of consuming too much electricity in his flat.

She added that an argument ensued, before the defendant stoned Adiele on his jaw which caused serious injury.

Mr Sunday was eventually rushed to the hospital before it was discovered that his jaw was broken.

Adekunle, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge while the Chief Magistrate, Mrs. Oluwatoyin Oghere, granted the defendant N100,000 bail.

She adjourned the case until June 26 for mention.
