Man jailed six months for theft of cell phones in Plateau
An Area Court in Jos, Plateau State, on Friday, sentenced an unemployed man, Tuagat Moses, to six months imprisonment for stealing six cell phones worth N1.4 million.
Magistrate Shawomi Bokkos sentenced the convict after he pleaded guilty to theft.
The judge, however, gave the convict an option of a N30,000 fine.
He also ordered the convict to pay N1.4 million to the complainant or spend 18 months in prison in case of default.

Earlier, the police prosecutor, Insp. Ijuptil Daniel, told the court that the case was reported at the State Intelligent Department, Jos, on December 18, 2024, by Mr. Auwal Umar.
He said the convict stole an iPhone 13, Techno Cannon 20, Redmi A3, Samsung A12, and Giones M7 from the complainant’s shop when he was called in for the repair of his faulty MP3 player.
The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of the Plateau Penal Code law of Northern Nigeria.
