Man on the run after murdering cousin over missing laptop

There is chaos at Umudagu Mbieri, in the Mbaitoli Local Government Area of Imo State after a suspect identified as Ifeanyi Ibeawuchi reportedly murdered his 22-year-old cousin Ifeanyi Ogu over a a laptop that went missing.

Reports say the incident which surprised many saw irate youths take the law into their hands when they set ablaze the family house of the suspect who is now said to be on the run.

According to Uchechukwu Ogu, the elder brother of the victim, the suspect had accused his younger brother of knowing something about the missing laptop but Ifeanyi denied the allegations against him.

Uchechukwu added that the suspect who was not satisfied with Ifeanyi’s denial later whisked the victim away in the company of three other young men who claimed to be police officers.

The victim’s elder brother said a three-day search to find his younger brother was later launched and his corpse was later found at Umuguma General Hospital mortuary on Tuesday.

He said “It never occurred to me that the men he came with were not policemen. It was when he refused to pick my calls that I visited the police station. But I was told that my younger brother was never brought to the police station.

“When we found my younger brother’s corpse at Umuguma General Hospital morgue, we were told that Ibeawuchi brought his corpse .”

The incident was confirmed by SP Andrew Enwerem who revealed that a search is underway to apprehend the suspect as normalcy has been restored in the area.

“We have started investigation into matter,” he added.
