3 policemen, woman, others sentenced to death for kidnapping

A man, Chukwudi Onweniwe, has been sentenced to death by an Ondo State High Court sitting in Akure, for killing his girlfriend, Nifemi Adeyeoye

Adeyeoye, a student of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo, was said to have been killed in February, 2017 at Ogbese in Akure North Local Government Area of the state.

The convict was said said to have kidnapped the deceased and taken her to a farm near Ogbese, where he raped her before strangling her to death.

The police arraigned Onweniwe in May 2017 on a four count charge of action endangering life, kidnapping, rape and murder, though the court convicted him on three, saying the prosecution did not produce any evidence to prove the charge of rape.

In his judgement, Justice Samuel Bola held that the autopsy that was conducted on the deceased showed the abnormal state of her neck and the fracture of her skull, adding that the autopsy also indicated that the deceased had been attacked with an object with a blunt edge, which led to her death.

On the count of kidnapping, Justice Bola sentenced Onweniwe to life imprisonment. On the counts of strangulating to death and murder, the convict was sentenced to death by hanging.
