Man who shot Reagan released after 35-yrs

A federal judge has ordered the release of a lone gunman John Hinckley from the government psychiatric hospital.

Hinckley hugged the headlines in the US when he attempted to assassinate the then American President, Ronald Reagan outside a hotel in Washington‎ on March 30, 1981.

Hinckley who was aged 25 when he shot and wounded Reagan, his press secretary James Brady (who was left paralysed), Secret Service, agent Tim McCarthy, and DC policeman Thomas Delahant.

When probed to divulge his motive for shooting at Reagan and three others outside the hotel in Washington, Hinckley who has spent the most of the last four decades at the psychiatric facility claimed he was trying to impress actress Jodie Foster, after developing an obsession with her role in the movie “Taxi Driver.”
