Man steals N7,000 phone from church alter, lands in court, gets N20,000 bail

The Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court, near Lagos played host to a case of a 29-year-old man who allegedly stole a phone belonging to one Noah Gbeliho from a Church altar.

Inspector Akpan Ikem, the prosecutor said the accused identified as Toyin Sunday committed the offence on February 14 at the Cherubim and Seraphim Church, Akorokoji area of Seme, in Badagry.

The accused who was arraigned by the police faced a charge of stealing a mobile phone worth N7,000 and according to the prosecutor, Sunday entered the church building through an entrance door that was left open, saw the cell phone by the altar and stole it.

The prosecutor said the offence committed by the accused who was seen by the complainant stealing her phone before he left the premises of the church contravened Section 285 of the Criminal Code of Lagos State, 2011.

After listening to the prosecutor, the Chief Magistrate Jimoh Adefioye granted Sunday bail of N20,000 and a surety in like sum before adjourning the case until March 12 for further hearing.
