Man to die by hanging for stealing phones, wrist watches

A convicted armed robber, Muritala Salami has been sentenced to death by hanging by Justice Adenike Coker of the Lagos State High Court in Ikeja.

Justice Coker handed down the sentence on Thursday, to Salami, who is said to be the leader of a four man robbery gang, after he was found guilty of two counts of conspiracy and robbery.

The prosecutor, Jide Martins, had told the court during the trial that Salami, who was arrested on April 16, 2016, stole two phones and two wristwatches belonging to one Okocha Afiam.

According to Martins, the offences are contrary to Section 299 (a) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, adding that Salami committed the crime alongside his gang members, who escaped arrest.

Delivering her judgement on Thursday, Justice Coker sentenced Salami to death by hanging.
