Woman raped, strangled to death by neighbour in Ekiti

Residents of Lugboji Oja community in Ondo West Local Government Area of Ondo State, watched in bewilderment on Monday as a father of nine, identified as Joseph was arrested by the police for allegedly raping a 12-year-old girl.

The suspected rapist who hails from the same Ogoja Local Government Area of Cross River State with the father of the victim, was nabbed in an attempt to escape the local government area, after forcefully having canal knowledge of the girl.

One of the villagers who spoke to news men on Monday about the incident said the suspect lured the girl to his house where she was raped and also warned her not to tell anybody except if she wanted to die.

The girl started bleeding profusely before she told her father about the rape while the suspect was said to have fled.

Medical reports after admission at the State Specialist Hospital, Ondo reportedly showed that the victim was raped.

The suspect was later apprehended at Oka motor park, Ondo town with his luggage, which suggested that he was trying to escape.

The State Police Public Relations officer, PPRO, Femi Joseph who confirmed the incident said the Commissioner of Police, Andie Undie, had directed that the case be transferred to the state’s Police Headquarters for further investigation.
