Mane may return early as Liverpool appeal 3-match ban

Liverpool will appeal against the length of Sadio Mane’s three-match ban after he was sent off during their 5-0 defeat at Manchester City last weekend.

The 25-year-old Senegalese was dismissed in the 37th minute after catching City goalkeeper Ederson in the face with a high foot.

Ederson was taken off on a stretcher with facial injuries following the incident in the first half, but is likely to return within two weeks according to City boss Pep Guardiola.

Mane is due to miss Premier League matches against Burnley and Leicester, as well as a trip to the latter in the EFL Cup.

Liverpool have chosen the option to claim the ban represents excessive punishment, and a successful appeal would see Mane’s ban reduced by one or two matches.
