Goals by Sadio Mane and James Milner were enough to beat Fulham and also lift Liverpool back to the Premier League summit.

The Reds defeated their hosts 2-1 on Sunday, with Milner’s late penalty helping the visitors avoid dropping points.

Mane had opened the scoring to put Liverpool ahead in the 26th minute, before Ryan Babel got an equaliser in the 74th minute from a defensive error.

Fulham, who are 19th on the Premier League table, thought they had salvaged a point until a penalty was given to Liverpool 9 minutes from time.

The penalty was awarded after Fulham keeper Sergio Rico dropped Mohammed Salah’s curling shot and fouling Mane as the Senegal forward went for the ball.

The goal by Milner took Liverpool back to the top for the first time since late February.

Jurgen Klopp’s side are now two points ahead of Manchester City, who have a game in hand.
