Mane on target as Senegal & Japan share four goals

Liverpool and Senegal forward Sadio Mane scored for the first time in seven matches for his country during a 2018 FIFA World Cup Group H clash with Japan which ended in a 2-2 draw.

The game played at the Ekaterinburg Stadium in Russia on Sunday was their second group game at the mundial, and a win could have placed them on the edge of advancing to the next round.

But, having won their opening games, both sides simply shared the spoils to stay joint-top of the group with four points each.

Japan came from behind twice to earn the point against the Teranga Lions. The Asian and African sides will hope for better results in their last group games.

Mane put Senegal ahead on 11 minutes but their lead did not last too long as Takashi Inui’s lovely curling finish brought Japan back into the game in the 34th minute.

Senegal went ahead again on 70 minutes after 19-year-old Moussa Wague scored with a fine finish from an angle, but substitute Keisuke Honda salvaged a point for Japan just 7 minutes after.

The other game of the group between Poland and Colombia will hold in Kazan Arena later on Sunday.

Both teams are each seeking their first point of the tournament, and the race for the last 16 slots of the group is still very much open.
