Many missing as 5-storey building collapses in Turkey

Incoming reports from Turkish media outlets suggests that a five-storey building housing a cafeteria among others has collapsed in the country’s largest city of Istanbul.

As at the time of filing in this report, it was still unclear if people were inside the cafeteria when the building collapsed but sources say a number of people may be trapped in rubble.

According to Dogan news agency, the building collapsed in a street near Istanbul’s pedestrian Istiklal Avenue, a main shopping district in the popular Taksim area.

Dogan says It is not known if anyone was inside the cafeteria located at the entrance of the building at the time of collapse with the city’s governor also telling local media that no one was believed to be hurt or injured in the incident.
