Many wounded as train derails in Lagos

A number of people on Thursday morning suffered various degrees of injuries as a train went off it’s tracks in Lagos.

Many of the injured passengers have been rushed to the hospital and emergency workers are at the scene of the accident.

Several were confirmed injured in the early morning train accident that occurred around Asade-Mangoro area in Ikeja, Lagos State.

The General Manager of Lagos State Emergency Management (LASEMA), Adesina Tiamiyu confirmed the incident, saying, “it fell but it didn’t fall on anyone.”

According to him, no casualties were recorded while injured persons had been taken to nearby hospitals.

He also confirmed that the accident was as a result of faulty rail track which residents had complained about.

He explained, “There has been complain about the state of the tracks around Asade market.

“The derail is caused by a faulty track. When trains get here they shake. They did palliatives days back but not well done. They have to properly fix this.”

He added that the fatality could have been high if there were traders around the rail tracks.
