Argentina legend Diego Maradona has branded the appointment of Antonio Conte as Chelsea manager ‘disgusting’ and ‘shameful’ in a furious tirade.

Conte has agreed to move to Stamford Bridge after leading Italy at Euro 2016 this summer.

He is set to replace Guus Hiddink, who has helped steady the ship after the departure of Jose Mourinho earlier this season.

But Maradona has slammed the idea that the Chelsea job should be seen as the next step for the manager of Italy.

‘What happened is disgusting!’ he told Italian TV station Piuenne.

‘The coach of the Italian national team who signs for Chelsea! That seems shameful to me.’

Maradona spent a good chunk playing career in Italy with Napoli.
