Mass anti-govt rallies continue in Venezuela as protesters shut down roads

Angry anti-government protests have continued in Venezuela with demonstrators blocking major roads in the capital of Caracas in near-daily street marches against dwindling economic fortunes.

Scores of protesters where seen with white shirts, homemade gas masks and flags draped around their shoulders shutting down at least 10 metro stations in anticipation of Saturday’s protest.

Last week, grandparents joined the protests amid worsening economic crisis which has hit the South American country.

Elderly people who have been particularly affected by the crisis in the health system were seen throwing punches and demanding respect from police who in turn blocked access to a main road in the capital of Caracas and used pepper spray to try to control the crowd.

In the last one month, violent clashes between supporters of the opposition and President Maduro have hit Venezuela with the opposition asking Maduro to step down, accusing him of eroding democracy.
