Mass purge in NNPC

Published

Amid strong speculations that President Buhari would keep the Petroleum portfolio to himself, the new helmsman at the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu, appears to be laying the foundation for the very radical reforms that are underway with a mass purge announced by the corporation on Tuesday.

Thisday reports that top management across all subsidiaries had been pruned from 122 to 88.

The development which was contained in a statement from the corporation’s Group General Manager, Public Affairs, Ohi Alegbe in Abuja, showed that key amongst those that were relieved of their jobs were Prince Haruna Momoh, who superintended over the Pipeline and Products Marketing Company (PPMC), a subsidiary of the NNPC, as well as the Tony Muoneke who was appointed managing director of the Nigerian Petroleum Development Company (NPDC) not long ago.

Also, the corporation formally disclosed the appointment of four new Group Executive Directors (GED) who will manage affairs at the four new directorates that it said have been approved by President Muhammadu Buhari.

According to the statement, the Group Managing Director (GMD) of NNPC, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu, disclosed that the new appointments are in line with the federal government’s aspiration to transform the corporation into a lean, efficient, business-focused, transparent and accountable national oil company.

Ibe said that the move was also in keeping with international best practices.
As approved by Buhari, the statement confirmed earlier reports that Dr. Maikanti Baru will oversee the corporation’s exploration and production division, Mr. Isiaka Abdulrazaq will take charge as the GED for finance and services, Dennis Nnamdi Ajulu as the GED for refining and technology while Dr. Babatunde Victor Adeniran will head the commercial and investment division.

It noted that a new company secretary and legal adviser, Chidi Momah was appointed for the corporation.

Other appointment include Mrs. Esther Nnamdi Ogbue as the managing director of PPMC, Chinedu Ezeribe as managing director, Warri Refining and Petrochemicals Company (WRPC), Mr. Babatunde Bakare as managing director of the Nigerian Gas Company (NGC)

I wish to call the attention of the new NNPC boss to the inconclusive 2012 recruitment exercise Which was later continued on December 2014 with a nationwide aptitude test administered by Phillips consulting company. Subsequently, on February 2015 ,those Who were successful on the written test were called and SMS sent, informing them to prepare for the oral interview, proposing that the details for the said interview will reach their emails by 24th February, Which never came till now even as I post this (6th August, 2015). Calls to Phillips consults have always have their replies towing the Same track Such as ‘ we are working on the logistics for a better interview ‘ , we are waiting for the marching orders from NNPC to proceed ‘et al.

Please let the new boss help the hopefuls Who are Nigerians well trained and ready to offer to the nation what they have got from the nation to solve the puzzle. let him help unravel the mystery behind the recruitment covered by mist. We can’t be left in the dark and made to believe ‘Nothing’. We are Nigerians, in Nigeria, and for Nigeria. This is the only country we can call our own. We deserve a better treatment and communication on this issue.

    Thanks.
    Long live NNPC hopefuls!
    Long live NNPC!
Long live Federal Republic of Nigeria
