The Super Falcons of Nigeria will today (Saturday) face Equatorial Guinea in their final group match at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations (AWCON) in Cape Coast, Ghana.

The Falcons kicked off their campaign on a disappointing note as they fell 1-0 to Banyana Banyana of South Africa, but got back into contention after mauling Zambia 4-0 in their second group game.

The Nigerian ladies are now set to play against already-eliminated Equatorial Guinea, with hopes of securing a semifinal slot as Zambia and South Africa, who will be playing elsewhere concurrently, are also contenders.

Head coach Thomas Dennerby said during his pre-match conference: “We hope to keep getting better and better….and hope that we have our best performance so far tomorrow (Saturday).”

Team captain Onome Ebi also told NFF media ahead of the game: “I see us in the semi finals already. I have strong faith in the team that we are going to beat Equatorial Guinea and then we will take the knockout stage one match at a time, Ebi said.

“Nigerians should keep praying for us. They should keep believing in the Super Falcons because we are here for the trophy and we are here to qualify for the World Cup. I believe that with hard work and with God on our side, we are going to achieve our twin objectives.”

The best three teams at the competition, i.e the winners, first and second runners-up, will represent Africa at the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup in France.

Nigeria’s clash against Equatorial Guinea his billed to kick off by 5:00p.m.
