The Super Falcons of Nigeria will take on their Zambian counterparts today in Ghana as they seek their first win at the ongoing Africa Women’s Cup of Nations.

The Nigerian ladies kicked off their AWCON campaign with a disappointing 1-0 loss to Banyana Banyana of SOuth Africa last Sunday, thanks to a late goal that Nigeria could not reply.

Speaking after the loss and ahead of the must-win clash against Zambia, Nigeria star, Osinachi Ohale said: “It was a difficult result for us in the first game but we are putting that behind us. We learned a lot from the game and we are working hard to make sure we put things in order and correct our mistakes against Zambia.”

The Thomas Dennerby side will go again on Wednesday to face the Copper Queens of Zambia, who thrashed Equatorial Guinea 5-0 in the Group B’s other match later on Sunday.

The competition also serves as the African qualifiers for the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup in France, with the best three teams qualifying automatically, and coach Dennerby is confident his girls will make it to the finals.

“I remain optimistic, the aim has not changed, and it’s definitely securing a ticket to the FIFA World Cup in France. We hope to come all the way to the final in this tournament again. And of course we need to win against Zambia,” Dennerby said.

Falcons are defending champions of the competition, and are the most successful team in the continent, having won the tournament eight times since its inception in 2008.

The match between Nigeria and Zambia will kick off by 4:30p.m.
