New signing, Nemanja Matic, was on display for the first time with Manchester United in their victory over Italian side, Sampdoria, in a friendly match on Wednesday.

United capped their pre-season tour with a 2-1 win against the Serie A side, and the 29-year old, who was recently bought for a fee of £35 million plus £5m in add-ons, was very impressive at the centre.

The Serbian midfielder, who joined from Chelsea, made the starting XI in the game and was substituted at half time.

It was Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Juan Mata who scored to give the Red Devils victory in the match which was played in Dublin.

The win completes what has been a satisfying pre-season for United, where they have won five out of their seven matches and have lost just once.

Jose Mourinho’s men will now shift all attention to their UEFA Super Cup clash with Real Madrid in Macedonia next Tuesday.
