Former Napoli manager, Maurizio Sarri has officially been appointed to succeed Antonio Conte as coach of Premier League club Chelsea.

The 59-year old replaces fellow Italian Conte, who served at the club for two years – winning the Premier League title in his first year and the FA Cup last May.

Sarri, who led Napoli to two second-place finishes in his three seasons in charge of the Serie A side, says he wants to bring entertaining football to the club after signing on a three-year deal.

“It is an exciting new period in my career,” he said.

“I hope we can provide some entertaining football for our fans and that we will be competing for trophies at the end of the season, which is what this club deserves.”

Since club owner Roman Abramovich took over the club in 2003, Sarri becomes the 13th manager he has appointed to head the club, including Jose Mourinho and Guus Hiddink on two occasions.

Chelsea finished fifth in the league last season, missing a UEFA Champions League spot.

They kick off their Premier League campaign on August 11 when they face Huddersfield Town away from home. But they will take on Manchester City in the Community Shield six days earlier.
