The Anambra State Police Command has reacted to the call by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) on the people of South East part of Nigeria and South-South states to sit-at-home on May 30.

Police said that as an outlawed organisation IPOB lacked the power to declare a sit-at-home order and vowed to deal with members of the group or anyone who will disrupt peace in the state on May 30.

The state Commissioner of Police, Garba Umar, who stated this in a statement on Saturday, therefore called on the people of the state to disregard the IPOB order.

“The command with other security agencies will not hesitate to deal with any individual or groups under any guise that will disrupt public peace,” he said.

Meanwhile, in a statement by its Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful, IPOB said that there was no going back on its May 30 order.

Adding that the order would be observed in about 20 states in the country, Powerful said that May 30 would witness a total lockdown of the South-East, South-South and other select states and cities across the country.

“All road journeys should be terminated at exactly 6pm on the 29. Any vehicle seen on the road after 6pm on May 29 will be regarded as a mark of disrespect and treated as an enemy of the Biafran people because May 30 of every year is a designated public holiday across Biafraland,” he said.
