Mayweather to come out of retirement for McGregor fight in June

Boxing legend Floyd Mayweather has publicly announced he will be coming out of retirement just to fight Conor McGregor, as the long awaited showdown seems to be edging closer to completion.

The 40-year old, who retired 49-0 in September 2015, has been negotiating with McGregor over a super-fight for several months now, with both trading verbal blows over fight purses and legacy.

McGregor has already insisted his next fight will be against Mayweather; and speaking to a UK crowd during his tour of the country, Mayweather confirmed the bout will happen.

“For Conor McGregor, I’m coming out of retirement, just to fight Conor
McGregor,” said Floyd.

“When I faced Oscar De La Hoya, he was the A side, I was the B side. I
didn’t cry, I didn’t complain, I beat him and I became the A side.

“I don’t want to hear no more excuses about the money, about the UFC.”

Mayweather and McGregor must however convince the UFC to sign off on the fight, though the boxer targets a June bout.

“Sign the paper with the UFC so you can fight me in June,” he continued.

“Simple and plain. Let’s fight in June. You’re the B side, I’m the A side. We’re not here to cry about money.

“I’m tired of all this crying about money and talking about you want to fight.

“You blowing smoke up everybody’s ass. If you want to fight, sign the paperwork, let’s do it.

“Today, I’m officially out of retirement for Conor McGregor. We don’t need to waste no time.

“We need to make ths happen quickly. Let’s get it on in June.”

The President of Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), Dana White, had at a time announced that he’s prepared to pay $25million each to Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor to stage their proposed mega fight, over which he got a rather harsh response from Mayweather, who called him a “comedian.”

However, McGregor has never boxed professional and is under contract with the UFC. And reports that the deal is done suggest that McGregor is only waiting on the UFC to sign off on the bout, for the fight to happen.
