Kylian Mbappe’s record-setting goal spurred France to their second win at the 2018 FIFA World Cup as they beat Peru 1-0 in a Group C encounter inside the Ekaterinburg Arena on Thursday.

The win sealed France’s spot in the round of 16 and sends Peru out of the race for this year’s World Cup.

Mbappe, who made the difference when he tapped in Olivier Giroud’s deflected shot in the 34th minute, became the youngest player to score for his country in an international competition.

Although it was Peru who had the upper hand after the break, France’s defence remained resolute to the final whistle.

Earlier on Thursday, the other teams in Group C, Denmark and Australia, played a 1-1 draw – a result that keeps both sides in the running for a spot in the knockout stage.

France will face Denmark in their last group match, as Peru will take on Australia in search of their first point in this year’s World Cup.
