Mbappe, Vinicius Jr fire Real Madrid past Celta

Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius Junior were both on target as Real Madrid sealed a 2-1 victory over Celta Vigo in the La Liga on Saturday night.

Real went ahead after just 20 minutes thanks to a wonderful long-range strike by Kylian Mbappe, who took one touch and whipped the ball into the top corner.

Celta often went offensive against their visitors, and their effort soon paid off when Williot Swedberg turned home after Oscar Mingueza whipped a low delivery into the box on 51 minutes.

Vinicius thought he had swiftly restored Real’s lead, but he had a goal ruled out for offside. But the Brazilian still got the win for Real 10 minutes after.

A record was also broken in the game. At 39 years and 40 days old, Luka Modric surpassed Ferenc Puskas to become Real Madrid’s oldest player.

Real are now level on points with Barcelona – who play Sevilla on Sunday.

Next up for Real Madrid is a home game against Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League on Tuesday.

Then they host Barcelona in the first El Clasico of the season next weekend.
