After meeting with Osinbajo, Oyegun, speculations rife Sheriff may dump PDP

There are currently wide spread speculations that the ousted national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, and former governor of Borno State, Ali Modu Sheriff, may soon defect to the ruling All Progressives Congress(APC).

The speculations have remained for quite some time now. It, however, became heightened following the former opposition party’s chairman Thursday visit to Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Sheriff had a closed-door meeting with Osinbajo with the national chairman of the APC, John Odigie-Oyegun in attendance.

While the details of the meeting were not readily available to newsmen, there are, however, widespread speculations that the meeting was not unconnected with the efforts of the ruling party to woo Sheriff over to the APC.

This came just as an earlier report had claimed that the APC had approached Sheriff with demands to join the Borno State chapter of the APC.

A Sheriff joining the APC may not spring any surprise as his former deputy, Cairo Ojougboh, who was sacked along with him only recently defected to the APC alongside some members of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Delta State loyal to sheriff.

Sheriff’s leadership of the PDP came to an abrupt stop following the judgment of the Supreme Court which annulled an earlier ruling of the Appeal Court that authenticated him as PDP national chairman.

The apex court after sacking Sheriff reinstated the Ahmed Makarfi led National Caretaker Committee (NCC) of the PDP.
