MEGA PARTY: Frank says Oyegun's arrogant talk won't help APC

The embattled Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr. Timi Frank, has disagreed with the party’s National Chairman Chief John Odigie-Oyegun over the threat the much talk about Mega party may pose to the ruling party.

Odigie-Oyegun holds that the Mega party will not be a threat to APC and said he will welcome it since it may form a strong opposition to help the ruling party be on its toes, especially with the gradual collapsing of the People Democratic Party (PDP).

However, the suspended Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the party, Frank, thinks otherwise, nothing that the chairman’s view which he described as ‘arrogant’ won’t help the ruling party.

According to him, the strength of the coming mega party must not be undermined whether it is a rumour or not. What APC must do he said, should be to think how the party will ensure it reconciles its aggrieved members in order to stop the possible birth of the mega party.

Frank, who describes Oyegun’s comment on the mega party as arrogant and capable of causing anger against the president, added that Oyegun must concentrate on addressing the grievances of party members, and not divide them further.

He stated this in a statement and said such comments were part of what led to the loss by the PDP.

“I think as a party, we should not undermine the strength of this much talked about mega party, whether it is a rumour or not. I think we should do everything possible to defeat the move through genuine reconciliation within us.

“We must remember that this is how PDP took APC for granted during formative stage, and the likes of Bamanga Tukur were busy saying ‘no vacancy at the Villa, PDP will rule for 60 years.’ But where are they today.

“So, our national chairman should learn to reconcile aggrieved members instead of offending them the more. It has shown today that even a ruling party could lose election, so we should stop talking arrogantly because we are in power.

Timi added that the claim by Oyegun that he has met with some aggrieved APC leaders to strategise against the proposed mega party is false. “I can say this emphatically that my national chairman did not meet with any of the aggrieved national leaders of APC. If it’s true, then he should tell Nigerians when and where the meeting took place,” the statement read.
