Kogi APC celebrates Melaye’s victory, accuses ghost of initiating recall

Former Kogi West Senator and 2023 Kogi State governorship candidate, Dino Melaye, on Saturday, launched a scathing attack on the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), accusing them of destroying the party.

In a social media post on Saturday, Melaye claimed that the PDP has lost its relevance in Nigeria’s political landscape.

Melaye specifically targeted the acting national chairman, Iliya Damagum, national secretary, Samuel Anyanwu, and national organizing secretary, Umar Bature, for criticism.

He alleged that they have “irredeemably destroyed” the party through their actions.

He wrote, “End of the road for PDP as Damagum, Bature and Anyanwu irredeemably destroyed the party. We will talk about the commercialisation and privatisation of PDP. PDP is now once upon a time.”

This comes as PDP lawmakers in the House of Representatives, under the aegis of the Opposition Coalition, raised serious allegations against Damagum and Anyanwu.

They accused the party leaders of secretly aiding defected former members of the Rivers State House of Assembly in a plot to impeach Governor Sim Fubara.

Damagum has since responded, denying any wrongdoing and warning that he will not be intimidated into resigning. He dismissed calls for his resignation, stating that they only serve to increase his popularity.

The crisis within the PDP has sparked concerns about the party’s ability to effectively oppose the ruling party ahead of the 2023 elections.
