Militants give new conditions for peace in Niger Delta

One of the Niger Delta militant groups, Joint Revolutionary Council (JRC) has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to blame his men and not militants for the elusive negotiation between them and the Federal Government.

President Buhari had said on Sunday while receiving a delegation of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) residents, led by Minister Mallam Muhammed Bello when they paid him Christmas homage that his government will persuade the militants to sheathe their swords and negotiate for peace.

However, reacting in a statement, the group’s spokesman identified simply as Whtye, said Buhari should blame Fifth Columnists as the hindrance for the desired peace in the oil region.

Adding that the group does not represent the Niger Delta Avengers (NDA) and the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND), but genuine militants interested in peace in the region, Whtye said, “Separate the wheat from the chaff and the boys would listen.”

“We received your message of a willingness to talk to agitating units within the Niger Delta struggle with good faith. However, we are burdened by the fact that in the past few month of your administration, certain agents within your administration have shown a preference to dialogue with conmen, conflict entrepreneurs, drivers of extortionist enterprises and wholesale blackmailers. It is for this reason that your pursuit of peace has failed. If you truly seek peace with the Niger Delta, then peace shall come”, the JRC stated.

These militants are learned, I have said it times without number. You could easily see it in the style in which they relate with the government.

Too many groups claiming to be militants! How is peace going to reign when all of the militants don’t have one voice?

Buhari needs to understand the militants are not like the illiterate Fulani heardsmen. Most of the militants have sound knowledge on what they are fighting for
