The Caretaker Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), led by Senator Ahmed Makarfi, has called on Zamfara State Governor Alhaji Abdulaziz Yari to blame the cause of meningitis in Nigeria on the Muhammadu Buhari-led government, and not on God.

Yari had on Tuesday, after meeting with President Buhari at the Abuja Villa, told newsmen that the present outbreak of meningitis which has killed hundreds of people in Nigeria, most especially in the northern states, was as a result of God’s wrath for fornication and other sins being committed in the country.

But in a statement which the Makarfi-led PDP issued through its spokesperson, Prince Dayo Adeyeye, in Abuja on Wednesday, the party argued that the Buhari- led All Progressives Congress (APC) government should be blamed for the disease, and not God.

He said “It is wrong to blame God for the outbreak of Cerebrospinal Meningitis in the country”.

On why the present administration should be blamed and not God, Makarfi faction of PDP argued that it was the “primary responsibility of any government to protect the lives and property of its citizens”.

It accused the APC-led Federal Government of continuously being “insensitive, careless and adamant” to the troubles of Nigerians in all ramification.

Emir of Kano and former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Muhammadu Sanusi II, had also criticised comments credited to the governor of Zamfara State, over the outbreak of cerebrospinal meningitis.

He accused the governor of approaching the issue with a wrong mind-set and said with such position, the governor may never find solution to the problem.
