Mercy Aigbe’s hubby could spend 3-years behind bars

Lanre Gentry, the estranged husband of Mercy Aigbe who is still cooling his heels in police custody could face up to three years in prison if found guilty of the charges leveled against him by a magistrate court in Lagos.

The hotelier who has been charged on three counts of domestic violence, assault, and threat to life by an magistrate court in Ikeja, Lagos could spend that much time in prison after his wife accused him of battery and claimed that she has been enduring an abusive marriage.

In a related development, Mercy has revealed in an interview that she endured her husbands beating for a long time because of her children and the fact that she once loved him.

The fair-skinned actress also said she endured the abusive marriage because many people looked up to her union with Lanre and each time he beat her up, he comes back begging her with his family members.

According to Mercy, it was not really her intention to leave, but she decided to bring the matter to the fore because she wanted to keep herself away from further harm as the last beating she got from her husband is still making her cough and sneeze out blood, while her sight is also affected.

Mercy said that the last beating incident broke the Camel’s back as she could no longer bottle up the constant abuse.

“On the day of the incident, I had informed my husband that I was attending a burial of my colleague. After his hesitance, I explained that it would not be fair on the lady since I had promised to be there and I even invited him to come along.

“He later got furious with me when I did not pick him up in time for the occasion because I was at my designers place. He drove to that place and started beating me. He was behaving like he was possessed; he was beating me while I reminded him that I have a child for him”.

Mercy has however noted that in another interview that the matter is no longer in her hands as the Lagos State Government has taken it up.

“The case is no longer between my husband and I. It is now between the Office of Public Defenders, Lagos State Ministry of Women Affairs and my husband. The officer is the one handling the case,” Mercy said.
