Messi, other Barca stars to have Covid-19 tests before resuming training

Lionel Messi and his Barcelona teammates will be undergo tests for Covid-19 at the club’s training ground before returning to training.

The La Liga champions are set to resume individual training “in the coming days” but will undergo the tests on Wednesday.

Spanish topflight teams have been given permission to return to training this week following the easing of some restrictions in the country.

Barca, in a statement, said the league “gave the go-ahead” for testing after inspecting the facilities at their training ground.

“On Wednesday the medicals will be carried out to guarantee the players’ health,” Barca wrote on their website

Barcelona are top of La Liga, two points clear of Real Madrid before the season was suspended in March due to the coronavirus pandemic.

La Liga organisers are aiming for a June restart to the season, and all players must be tested before they can return to training facilities.

There are 11 rounds of matches remaining in the season, and they could be played behind closed doors.
